Dolan, UW-Green Bay online learning earns spotlight at major conference

A presentation by a UW-Green Bay expert received prominent mention when the online publication Insider Higher Ed covered last week’s Sloan Consortium International Conference on Online Learning, held in Buena Vista, Fla. Joanne Dolan, the instructional design specialist for the University’s Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL), presented “Back to School: What Happens When Faculty Experience Online Education From a Student’s Perspective?”

Dolan described UW-Green Bay’s online faculty fellows program, which introduce soon-to-be online instructors to digital pedagogy in the Desire2Learn era. The program challenges faculty members to consider design and strategy, navigation, how much discussion to encourage or require, and whether and to what extent to depend on group work. All in all, Dolan told conference-goers, the program has been effective, helping prove that “sometimes it’s better to go back to being a student so you can see the world the way they do.” See the article.
