On the media: Clampitt says record-setting Twitter night just the beginning

Election Day 2012 was a record-setter for social network Twitter, which reported a mind-boggling 31.7 million tweets sent Tuesday (Nov. 6). Communication Prof. Phil Clampitt on Wednesday told WBAY, Action 2 News that social media have become “must use” for campaigns, speaking for a story on Twitter’s impact. “It changes the way you and I talk,” Clampitt told reporter Sarah Thomsen. “It changes our society in rather profound ways, and in that way, it’s very, very exciting.” Just 15 percent of U.S. adults use Twitter, according to a February Pew Research study, and Clampitt says the medium’s long-term impact remains to be seen.
