Alesch study on casinos gains widespread media attention

A study on Wisconsin casinos from Prof. Emeritus Daniel Alesch (Public and Environmental Affairs) made news across the state late last week, with significant media attention focusing on its conclusions. Alesch’s Wisconsin Public Research Institute study finds the state would not benefit financially from adding new casinos, and that doing so in an essentially saturated casino market would simply shift dollars and jobs from place to place. “In this case, there would be no net gain to the people of the state,” Alesch wrote. “There will simply be a transfer of jobs and money from one community to another and from one tribe to another.” A link to the study, along with a sampling of media coverage, is as follows:
