Kersten’s Founders Award three-peat

Especially notable among the Founders Association presentations Aug. 26 was the community-outreach award given to Prof. Andy Kersten, Humanistic Studies. With it, he became only the second three-time recipient of a Founders Award, and the first to be honored back-to-back-to-back. The occasion prompted a quip from Chancellor Thomas Harden, “Three ‘majors’ in a row. In tennis, there’s the Grand Slam. In golf, the Tiger Slam. Here at UWGB, I guess you’d have to call it ‘The Andy Slam.’” Kersten was honored in 2007 for teaching and in 2008 for excellence in scholarship. In the 40-year history of UW-Green Bay, only one individual has received three Founders Awards, and that person has four: Prof. Cliff Abbott, Communication and First Nations Studies, who emceed Wednesday’s awards program, has been honored for community outreach,(1984); institutional development (1995); scholarship (2003); and collaborative achievement (2008).
