Kaye’s book launch set for ‘FDR day’ in New York City

Four Freedoms Park Conservancy will commemorate the 69th anniversary of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s death with a wreath laying ceremony Saturday afternoon, April 12, at the park, located on Roosevelt Island in New York City. Following the ceremony will be a book signing and talk by featured guest, Prof. Harvey Kaye of UW-Green Bay. The event marks the formal launch of his new book The Fight for the Four Freedoms: What Made FDR and the Greatest Generation Truly Great. (The Simon & Schuster hardcover goes on sale Tuesday, April 8.) Kaye’s book argues that the Greatest Generation was also America’s most progressive, particularly in the pursuit of economic equity. Roosevelt’s famous “Four Freedoms” speech in 1941, Kaye says, helped mobilize America to win the war and promote post-war societies built on freedom of speech and worship, and freedom from want and fear.
