And speaking of Italy … Hutchison continues connection

Ray Hutchison (Urban and Regional Studies) is in Florence (Italy, not Wisconsin or South Carolina) to participate in several workshops and conferences. Tuesday (March 12) he gave a talk titled “Comparative Perspectives on Suburbanization of Poverty” at the school of urban planning at the University of Florence. The 2010 U.S. Census reported that for the first time a majority of poor persons in American cities live in the suburbs than in central cities. Hutchison’s talk included case studies of Chicago, London, Paris, and Glasgow as examples of cities were the majority of the urban poor live in the suburbs. As you’ll recall, Hutchison was one of the driving forces behind UW-Green Bay’s acquisition of its Leonardo Da Vinci statue. Read more.
