Kraft on fundraising: Both sides have used recall provision

In other gubernatorial news this week, media reported that Walker has raised more than $12 million — including $4.5 million during the last five weeks — to prepare for a possible recall. More than 60 percent of the recently raised $4.5 million came from out-of-state donors, thanks to a provision that allows unlimited fundraising for recall elections. Prof. Emeritus Michael Kraft weighed in on what some observers have said amounts to excessive outside influence, pointing out that Walker isn’t the only one who’s used the provision. “Democrats think this is unfair, because (Walker) has an enormous financial advantage over them,” Kraft said. “And yet they too, in last summer’s recall elections, raised an astonishing amount of money.
