Downtown lecture: Look for the photo of the girl in the bunny suit

The Downtown Third Thursdays series kicks off next week on Oct. 16 with a noontime presentation by Prof. Carol Emmons on the topic “The Animal in Contemporary Visual Art.” Her talk relates to a concurrent Neville Public Museum exhibit and relates to the fact that, historically, such art might have meant depicting animals as food, companions, or as symbols of the purity of nature. This session, however, will also look at contemporary artists who use animals in their work, and the implications—sometimes controversial—of their practices. Get the details.
