This week’s NAS Seminar: restoring Great Lakes fisheries

Mark E. Holey of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Green Bay will be the featured speaker at 3 p.m. this Friday (Oct. 10) in Environmental Sciences Room 301 for the next edition of the Natural and Applied Sciences Seminar Series. Holey’s topic is “The Role of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in Restoring Native Great Lakes Fish.” Among other things, he’ll talk about the extirpation of native lake trout in the 1950s at time lake sturgeon and cisco populations were also greatly reduced, and efforts to restore those species (including new development of fish passage on the Menominee River). The talk, free and open to the public, will be followed by a social at 4 p.m. in ES 317.
