Chamber Ensembles Concert is Friday

Four UW-Green Bay student groups will perform as part of the annual spring Chamber Ensembles Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday (May 8) in the University Theatre. Admission is free. The program opens with the seven-member New Music Ensemble under the direction of Associate Prof. Eric Hansen of Music. Three of the group’s four selections will be recent compositions by Hansen (“SIM Card Sonata” and “Ping Pong Music”) and student vocalist Kelsie Holtzheimer (“Choose Your Own Path”). Next up is the Saxophone Quartet, performing four pieces directed by Associate Prof. John Salerno. The 17-member Brass Ensemble led by Associate Prof. Adam Gaines will present selections including two movements from “Symphony from the Fairy Queen” by Henry Purcell. Closing the evening will be the Hand Drumming Ensemble, with the group’s 14 percussionists performing three pieces from the “Rhythm Chant” series written by their director, Prof. Cheryl Grosso.
