Visiting UN official will talk on climate change and development

The Natural and Applied Sciences Seminar Series has a well-connected guest speaker and a timely topic for this month’s seminar. Nguyen Khac Tiep of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization will visit to address “Climate Change and Energy: Current Status, Future Scenarios and Impacts Related to UNIDO (the United Nations Industrial Development Organization) Work.”

UNIDO supports exploration of sustainable ways to bring affordable, reliable energy to developing nations, while seeking methods to double energy efficiency and the share of renewable energy in energy matrices worldwide. Nguyen currently manages projects involving low-carbon transport options for businesses, industrial energy efficiency, and solar and thermal energy, in countries including China, South Africa, Turkey, Egypt, Malaysia, Ecuador and Myanmar.

His visit to Wisconsin will also feature a lecture at UW-Madison, following his talk this Friday (April 25) in the UW-Green Bay NAS series. (His visit is cosponsored by UW-Green Bay, the UW Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies, and Wisconsin Sea Grant.) Friday’s program here begins with a social at 3:15 p.m. in Room 317 of the Environmental Sciences Building, followed by the lecture at 3:45 p.m. in ES 301. Free and open to the public.
