Small space, big talk: WC Gallery hosts public lecture Saturday

Lisa Mendelson, artist in residence at the WC Gallery, will be giving a public lecture titled “Art Without Walls” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday (Nov. 23) at the gallery, 908 Talbot Ave, De Pere. The event is free and open to the public. Mendelson is a graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute and a long-time denizen of the SF art scene. She will talk about her gleaner’s recycled jewelry, her Charles Bukowski embroidered lingerie vixen street performances, the Yellow Bench public portrait series, and offer much more about her interventions in the public sphere. For readers unfamiliar, the WC Gallery is billed as the smallest art gallery in Wisconsin, maybe even the Midwest. It’s actually the bathroom (or “Water Closet,” as the Brits say) in the home of Lawton Gallery curator of art Stephen Perkins. On exhibit opening nights and by appointment, Perkins throws open the door to the general public, free of charge. Check out http://thewcgallery.blogspot.com to learn more.
