Semester’s last NAS seminar features USGS expert

The last Natural and Applied Sciences Seminar for fall semester will take place Friday (Nov. 22), featuring guest speaker Terrence M. Gerlach, U.S. Geological Survey (retired). Gerlach’s talk, titled “Volcanic versus anthropogenic CO2 emissions,” will examine the amount of emissions generated by volcanoes versus those generated by human activities. He will address the belief, common among climate change skeptics, that volcanoes emit more CO2 than the 37 billion metric tons per year generated by human activities. The seminar event kicks off with a 3 p.m. social in ES 317, which will be followed by the lecture at 3:30 p.m. in ES 301. All are welcome.
