Peninsula Park gets new fishing pier from Al Rheinschmidt estate

A new accessible fishing pier will be constructed at the Nicolet Bay boat launch at Peninsula State Park, thanks to a $25,000 bequest from longtime UW-Green Bay director of institutional services Alan Rheinschmidt. A resident of Mosinee and avid outdoorsman who retired from the University nearly two decades ago, Rheinschmidt passed away in December 2013. The gift for the fishing pier wasn’t his first significant gift to the state of Wisconsin. In the early 2000s he surprised the University with an out-of-the-blue donation of $30,000 to help cope with tight budgets. “I can remember times when we didn’t even have money to buy beakers for the science labs,” he told an interviewer at the time. “As long as I had the opportunity to give a little, I would. I hope it inspires others to do the same.”
