Huge honors: Wardle, Sykes, Brown are tops in Horizon League

Monday (March 3) was a big day for Green Bay men’s basketball, with two Phoenix players and Coach Brian Wardle earning Horizon League top honors for a stellar regular season. Wardle was named coach of the year — an honor last earned by a Phoenix men’s coach in 1996 (Mike Heideman). Junior guard Keifer Sykes was named Horizon League men’s player of the year, becoming the first Phoenix player to earn that award since Jeff Nordgaard, also in 1996. Senior center Alec Brown joined Sykes as a first team selection and was named defensive player of the year. The awards were announced just two days after the Phoenix finished the regular season with a 24-5 record overall and 14-2 record in league play. More on the awards.
