Haynie, CATL to organize efforts on ‘online quality’ initiative

Associate Prof. Aeron Haynie has been appointed the director and the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CATL) identified as the home for a new initiative at UW-Green Bay that will assess and ensure the quality of online teaching and learning. Called the “Quality Matters” program, the project coincides with UW-Green Bay’s efforts to seek another full, 10-year renewal of its institutional accreditation. The University’s accrediting body, the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, has recently amended its criteria to encourage member institutions to demonstrate innovation and strategic purpose in improving higher education. After a yearlong process of research and consultation with individuals across campus, Chancellor Harden chose the Quality Matters program to be UW-Green Bay’s area of emphasis. QM is a nationally recognized, faculty-centered, peer-reviewed process. It was selected because of its fit with the campus Strategic Plan, because of the expansion of online education at UW-Green Bay, and because of the institution’s desire to ensure that all courses and program share the same high standards.
