At least five of the nominees for the local 2013 Dreamers and Doers Award have strong connections to UW-Green Bay. Heading the list is 2008 summa cum laude Social Work graduate Jen Schanen, who has worked professionally and also volunteered in a variety of human services capacities around Green Bay. (She also happened to be recognized at her commencement as UWGB’s 25,000th graduate.) Community activist Carol Bush, a long-time supporter and advocate of the University, including its Founders Association, Weidner Center and Phoenix Fund, is another nominee. Carol and her husband, Bob Bush, are Phoenix Hall of Fame inductees and received the Chancellor’s Award in 2002. Their daughter, Tracy Arndt, president of Encompass Child Care Board of Directors, is a past Founders Association Board member. Kate Burgess, CEO of FulfillNet, Green Bay, is a supporter of both the Weidner Center and Phoenix athletics, and she serves on the IEI Board of Directors. Irene (Billie) Kress, is another Chancellor’s Award winner (2009) for her many contributions for UW-Green Bay through the years. These five nominees, plus Janice Barkby, Janic Born, Margaret Kubek, Diane Legomsky, Carol Pearson, Tricia Nell, Jen Schanen, Bev Smith and Jennifer Stevens, will be recognized for their contributions to Brown County at the annual Dreamers and Doers Award Luncheon next month.
