Modern Languages students reach out at Aldo

UW-Green Bay students fluent in Spanish, German and Japanese are back for another year teaching in the after-school language program at Aldo Leopold Community School.

It’s the second consecutive year for the partnership at Aldo Leopold, the Green Bay’s district’s choice or alternative-learning school.

Ten UW-Green Bay language students are participating this year. Eight are teaching Spanish, one is leading instruction in German, and one is teaching Japanese.

The paid internship program debuted last fall as a partnership involving Aldo Leopold, UW-Green Bay and St. Norbert College, which also contributes undergraduate students to the effort.

Prof. Cristina Ortiz notes that UW-Green Bay graduate Ellen Cook, who received her degree in 2009 with a major in Spanish and minor in Education, was hired by the Green Bay Area Public School District to coordinate the language program and also teach Spanish at Aldo.
